The effect of 2,4-D on the photosynthetic apparatus in cotyledons of spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) seedlings grown in the dark

چکیده
Growth regulating substance, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is widely used in plant cell cultures and also in agriculture as a herbicide. The effect of 2,4-D on photo synthetic pigment content and chloroplast ultrastructure in spruce seedlings grown in the dark was studied. Seedlings were grown for 16 days in the dark at room temperature in Petri dishes moistened either with tap water (control) or 4.5, 45 and 450 uM 2,4-D. The lowest concentration (4.5 pM) of 2,4-D induced both chlorophyll and carotenoid bio synthesis as compared to the control treatment. There were no statistically significant dif ferences in any of the measured parameters between the control and the 45 pM 2,4-D treatment. A herbicidal concentration of 2,4-D (450 pM) induced a decline in chlorophyll content, while carotenoids were not significantly influenced. In contrast to the low con centration treatments, a herbicidal concentration of 2,4-D caused extensive changes in chloroplast shape and ultrastructure.

Effects of Temperature and Season on In Vitro Establishment and Shoot Multiplication of Picea abies (L.) H. Karst
Plant propagation originated from the mature tissues is the most desirable method in producing clonal plants, however microbial contamination usually is the main concern during regeneration processes. Moreover, commercial production of plants using clonal propagation is considered as high throughput method due to the removal of seasonal barriers, lower cost of production with higher yield wh...

Trehalose (a-D-glucosyl-[1,1]-a-D-glucopyranoside) is involved in mechanisms that coordinate metabolism with plant growth adaptation and development. The main objective of the current work was to find out whether trehalose feeding affects the expression of two genes involved in photosynthesis: one gene coding for photosystem1 subunit H (PS1-H) and the other for the light harvesting complex B1 (...

HMGCoA reductase was identified in seedlings, callus cultures, cell suspension cultures and in needles o f spruce ( Picea abies) (L.) (Karst). Activity was found in both the 18 K pellet and in the 105K pellet with different ratios between the two fractions from the various sources. The enzyme has a pH-optimum o f 7.9 and an absolute requirement for N A D PH . The presence o f a thiol reagent su...

The correlation between the peroxidase activity, chlorophyll and soluble protein content as well as the changes in vascular bundle structure in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. In spite of the absence of any yellowing symptoms, a significantly lower chlorophyll con tent was measured in spruce needles affected by cement dust. Observed sieve cel...
متن کاملPhysiological responses of Norway spruce (Picea abies) seedlings to drought stress.
Four-year-old seedlings of Picea abies [L.] Karst (Norway spruce) were grown in semi-controlled conditions with three watering regimes. The seedlings in the control group (c) were watered to prevent any dehydration effect. The two remaining groups were subjected to mild (ms) and severe water stress (ss), respectively. The following physiological variables were monitored until ss seedlings began...
